The firm’s renewed SAS 70 Type II certification followed a comprehensive evaluation of Host.net’s physical security, environmental security, network monitoring, problem escalation and support by SAS 70 Solutions, the largest U.S.-based audit firm specializing in SAS 70 audit services. SAS 70 stands for the Statement on Auditing Standard (SAS) No. 70 issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) for use in assessing the internal controls of a service organization.
Host.net’s new PCI DSS Requirement 9 certification resulted from an audit of the firm’s colocation center infrastructure and operational controls to assess their compliance with Requirement 9 of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, which requires specific restrictions on physical access to consumer credit card information. The audit was conducted by Enterprise Risk Management, which provides a wide variety of information security and information systems audit services to local, national and international businesses.
“Up-to-date security assurance is imperative for companies selecting a colocation provider. It is essential to know that the provider meets strict standards covering everything from the physical building itself to network and power redundancy, 24x7 monitoring and support,” said Roger Barranco, CTO and VP of Operations for Host.net. “The fact that we have achieved these certifications – and in fact renewed our SAS 70 Type II certification, which many providers fail to do – demonstrates that our clients’ equipment and information assets are safe.”
The SAS 70 certification also assists companies that must comply with Sarbanes-Oxley legislation related to internal data controls. The SAS 70 report addresses all five components of internal control outlined in the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation, including the control environment, risk assessment activities, control activities, information and communication systems, and monitoring activities.
